The Palestinian Liberation Organization, headed by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, has expressed opposition to a proposal by the United States at the United Nations General Assembly to condemn Hamas for continuing incitement to violence against Israel and launching rockets into the modern Jewish state.

PLO Secretary-General Saeb Erekat said that the American draft resolution distorted reality and that Israel was "fully responsible [for the situation] because of continued occupation, colonialist settlement, facts on the ground, the blockade [of Gaza], the [periodic] closure [of the PA], the executions, the arrests and the ethnic cleansing." He said that the US administration refuses to condemn all of these "crimes" of Israel, and moreover it acted against all other resolutions recently submitted to the General Assembly regarding the right of self-determination of the Palestinian people.
