James Jeffrey, the United States envoy to Syria, feels that the recent sanctions imposed by the United States on the Tehran government may contribute to reducing the Iranian presence in Syria, according to Russia's Sputnik news agency.
Jeffrey told reporters in Washington on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic is not increasing its presence in Israel's war-torn northern neighbor, adding, "They are not expanding. Again, the military situation right now is frozen on the ground, and there is very little Iranian combat involvement other than some movements in the vicinity of some ISIS [Islamic State terror movement - ed.] elements."
