US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he will nominate retired Army Gen. John Abizaid to become the US ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
The post has been vacant throughout Trump’s presidency. The nomination, which requires confirmation by the Senate, comes amid pressure on the administration to respond to the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
