Supreme Court judges Yitzhak Amit, Noam Solberg and David Mintz have rejected a petition filed by the Movement for Quality Government which demanded that Interior Minister Aryeh Deri's authority be revoked in the local elections to Jerusalem following Minister Deri's statement that "the devil issued an emergency callup order" in the mayor's race.
In a rare move, the judges ruled that the Movement for Quality Government in Israel did not have the right to stand as a public petitioner, since neither the alleged victim, candidate Ofer Berkovitch, nor his representative chose not to file a petition to the court. The court also cited the movement's delay in submitting the petition.
