Interior Minister Aryeh Deri apologized to Jerusalem mayoral candidate Ofer Berkovitch Sunday, following the broadcast of a recording indicating that Deri called Berkovitch a "devil."
Deri's office said, "Minister Deri did not say that Berkovitch was a devil. He meant that there was a division between the haredi-religious communities in Jerusalem, as if the devil had entered them and caused a schism that could cause the loss of the religious candidate. Minister Deri apologizes if it was understood otherwise."
