The Israel Defense Forces have begun assigning combat-support soldiers from yeshivas to mixed-gender communications units in the Southern Command's Division 162 and the Central Command's Division 98. The soldiers serve alongside female soldiers without any separation on a daily basis, except for living quarters as is customary in the IDF, and the soldiers reported joint activities, trips and even stretcher exercises.
Soldiers from a number of yeshivas have complained to the Ministry of Defense and the "Tzav 1" (Order #1) organization about their placement in these battalions, which were operating alongside combat units. The soldiers pointed out to the organization that they had already contacted the hesder yeshivas who have been coordinating efforts with the IDF and the military rabbinate in recent months in order to transfer them as required by the heads of the yeshivas, but until now the attempts to influence the head of the IDF Personnel Directorate, General Moti Almoz have been unsuccessful.
