The New York Times reported that six children have died and another 12 are infected following a severe viral outbreak at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, in northern New Jersey.

New Jersey's Department of Health said that the outbreak was a particular strain of adenovirus which often causes mild illness, particularly in young children. But the virus, which the department said was particularly associated with communal living facilities, had severely affected children at the facility who had fragile and compromised immune systems.
