The Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee has approved for first reading by the plenum, a bill proposed by Member of Knesset Anat Berko (Likud), under which the theft of weapons would be considered "theft under special circumstances" and result in up to 10 years' imprisonment.
Originally, the bill dealt with the theft of weapons parts. However, during the hearing, MK Berko's agreed with the recommendation of the legal advisor of both the committee and the Ministry of Justice to keep the maximum punishment for the theft of weapons parts at three years.
