Thousands of people demonstrated in Ramallah Monday evening against a new law to regulate pensions for private-sector workers in the Palestinian Authority, according to the Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation.
The demonstrators protested that the law significantly increases the employee and employer's pension deductions and called for repealing the law in its present form. The protesters also called for the dismissal of the PA labor minister, who is promoting the law. Following the demonstrations, the Ramallah government announced that it would consider amendments.
