Interior Minister Aryeh Deri said Thursday that a newly-publicized ruling of the Jerusalem District Court on private orthodox conversion to Judaism is nothing new.
Deri said, in a statement, that a 2002 Supreme Court verdict also recognizes Reform and Conservative conversions for purposes of registration in the population registry, but does not constitute a material recognition of conversion. He said that is covered by the recommendations of the Nissim Committee, which Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is still studying.
