Israelis set a new record for spending on credit cards during the summer-vacation months, according to date from the Shin Bet Aleph (automatic bank services) company, which operates the country's national clearing system.

The company cleared 264.185 million transactions, compared to 242.687 million in 2017, up 8.9 percent. The value of 56.440 billion shekels is a 10.1-percent from 2017's NIS 51.221 billion. This works out to an average transaction of NIS 213.64, 1.2 percent more than last year's NIS 211.06.
