The ADL has released a statement in which it praises the British Labour Party for its adoption of the full IHRA definition of anti-semitism, saying:
"We welcome Labor's decision to fully adopt the IHRA definition. The previous decision to exclude several examples of anti-Semitic statements contributed to the deep suspicion and resentment of the Jewish community in Britain and from Jewish organizations around the world.
Adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism Is the first and necessary step to show that the Labor Party in Britain will not be tolerant of anti-Semitism among its members. However, British Jewish organizations raised concerns about judging complaints about anti-semitic statements and behavior. Without efforts of goodwill to implement the IHRA definition, The decision to adopt the definition would be an empty gesture and would not restore confidence in the party's commitment to combating anti-Semitism. The article "Freedom of Expression Regarding Israel", which was added as an appendix to the meeting, can not prevent the implementation of the IHRA definition.
Acts will testify more than words. We join our colleagues, the British Jews, in the expectation that the British Labor Party will enforce the adopted standard as a condition for restoring the trust of the Jewish community. "
