The infection was discovered in the poultry of the "Empire Kosher" company in four US states: 17 people have become ill and 8 were hospitalized.
Empire Kosher said on its website that it was "shocked and saddened" to hear about the case of death attributed to the salmonella outbreak. However, Shan claimed that "we have no data that connects this tragic event to our products."
The company said it is cooperating fully with the Department of Agriculture and the CDC, which is investigating the outbreak. Cases of disease began in September last year. The last reported case occurred in June.
