Member of Knesset Shuli Moalem-Refaeli (Jewish Home) sent a letter to Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė on Monday, asking her to prevent the construction of a huge convention center on the ruins of the old Jewish cemetery in the city of Vilnius (Vilna) according to Channel 20 Television.
MK Moalem-Refaeli wrote, "Tens of thousands of holy Jews who lived their lives in Vilna for generations are buried in the Šnipiškės cemetery. This act violates the dignity of the dead and damages the glorious history of the city of Vilna. The plans to convert the Jewish cemetery will harm the Jewish people."
