AFP reports that police in Argentina searched former president Cristina Kirchner's three homes. Police searched the home after a Judge petitioned the Argentinian Senate Wednesday to partially lift the former president's parliamentary immunity. The search came as part of an investigation into a multi-million dollar corruption scandal in which businessmen allegedly bribed officials for public works contracts during Cristina Kirchner's term in office. Currently a senator, the former president enjoys congressional immunity from imprisonment, but not
from prosecution.
The former president denounced the investigation in a speech before Argentinias parliament, claiming the charges against her were a form of "political persecution" However, the former president along with her fellow senators, voted to approve the petition allowing police to investigate her.
