The Tzav Echad (One Order) organization, which works on behalf of observant Jewish soldiers, has asked the Second Broadcasting Authority to conduct an in-depth examination of the recent coverage by Channel 10 Televison of religious soldiers turning their backs on a parachute instructor.
The organization wants editors and presenters to avoid repetition of the situation in which presenters Ayala Hasson and Oded Ben Ami, who were supposed to maintain a neutral position, joined an unrestrained attack on the soldiers, which was made while losing all basic journalistic values of fairness and ethics, according to the complaint. The complaint accused Channel Ten and the news agency of taking advantage of the fact that the religious and traditional public does not watch television on Shabbat. It asked the authority to demand that the news companies be properly represented by the religious and traditional public and examine "how to refrain from raising religious issues on Shabbat, when a large percentage of [religious and traditional] viewers do not watch the broadcasts and their voice is effectively silenced."
