Former prime minister Ehud Barak has blasted Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in response to a report that Member of Knesset David Bitan was recorded saying he had closed a deal with Netanyahu to replace Gilad Erdan as Public Safety Minister.

Writing on Twitter, Barak said, "A Mafia Movie in Balfour. The sewage gutters are full. It is very possible that the soldier, Bitan, took bribes, but on the tape he does not lie. Now it is clear to all - the head of the pyramid is trying to eliminate the police commissioner in order to to be rescued from court and prison. Everything is becoming transparent: everyone knows who the 'Don' is, who the 'soldiers' are, and even the 'Consigliere'."
He concluded with a derogatory Arabic way of saying, "The 'rule of law' is a lie."
