Police detained 17 people for questioning on suspicion of damaging the quality of life in eastern Jerusalem, following what was dubbed Operation 700 Sunday evening and Monday morning.
Timed ahead of tomorrow evening's beginning of the Eid Al-Adha Muslim sacrifice holiday, the operation involved officials from the Jerusalem municipality and the Ministry of Energy. They removed piles of garbage, junked cars and improvised structures, painted sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, destroyed two pirate gasoline stations and seized a vehicle that served as a pirate gas station. Police and officials also seized weapons, counterfeit money, drugs, and eggs that were not under veterinary supervision.
