The Central Bureau of Statistics announced on Thursday that in 2017, the national expenditure on health was 7.5 percent of the gross domestic product. At constant prices, expenditure on health increased in 2017 by 3.8 percent compared to 2016.

The share of public financing as a percentage of the national expenditure on health (24 percent by the health tax and 39 percent by the government budget), was lower than the average of countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (74 percent). An international comparison with OECD countries for 2017 reveals that current national expenditure (excluding fixed capital formation) on health as percent of the gross domestic product in Israel (7.3 percent) was lower than the average in the OECD countries (8.9 percent).
