Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman told Radio 103FM on Thursday that it was not possible to continue the process for selecting a new chief of staff for the Israel Defense Forces and give the names of the two top candidates to the Committee for Appointing Senior Officials because of petitions filed against the appointment of two committee members, former head of the National Security Council Yaakov Nagel, and accountant Iris Stark.

The petitions are also holding up the process for choosing a new governor for the Bank of Israel. If it is decided not to extend the term of Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh, which is due to expire soon, the government will find itself facing the same problem with that position.
