Former Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon alleged to Hadashot on Wednesday evening that Prime Minister Netanyahu had wanted to choose embattled General Yair Golan over current Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot when the selection came up in 2015.

"When I want to appoint Gadi Eizenkot as chief of staff, it takes a few months before Netanyahu approves bringing it to the government, and who does he want? Yair Golan" recalled Ya'alon.

"I am certain that Yair Golan was not personally loyal to him, but Netanyahu thought that this would be a surprising appointment, so he would owe it to him."
