Capital Markets Commissioner Dorit Salinger decided at the last minute on Tuesday not to attend a parliamentary committee of inquiry on the granting of credit by banks and financial institutions to capitalists.
When her team entered the committee room, it discovered that it was decided to seat her in the center of the room, with all the committee members around it. Sources in the her office said that this created a sense of "defendant's seat" and Salinger did not intend to participate in such a discussion. Chairman Eitan Cabel of the Knesset Economics Committee responded angrily to the decision, saying, "I am going to give the speech that I intended to give and allow my friends to say a few words and then we will disperse the meeting. I have no intention of giving up. And if Dorit thinks she is at the end of her term and she can ignore us - she's wrong."
