Attorney Itamar Ben-Gvir has written to Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, asking them to recommend that the government cancel the declaration of the Kach movement as a terrorist organization.
It should be recalled that in 1994, following the massacre of Arabs carried out by Dr. Baruch Goldstein at the Tomb of the Patriarchs, the government decided to declare the Kach and Kahane Chai movements as terrorist organizations, even though the Shamgar Commission explicitly stated that Goldstein acted alone. Attorney Ben-Gvir wrote, "it is clear to all enlightened people that the government's decision was a political decision, which was made for extraneous considerations and was intended to silence people, and it had no professional basis." He noted that if the attorney general did not comply with his request, a petition to the Supreme Court would be considered.
