Education Minister Naftali Bennett emphasized his view that the Druze citizens of Israel are still "brothers" despite the recent passage of the "nationality law" declaring Israel to be the nation-state of the Jewish people.
"After conversations with many of our Druze brothers, it emerges that the manner in which the "nationality law" passed was very damaging to them and the people who linked their fate to the Jewish state," Bennett said. "This of course was not the intention of the Israeli government."
"They are our blood brothers who stand shoulder to shoulder with us on the battlefield and made a covenant of life with us," he added. "We, the Government of Israel have a responsibility to find a way to heal this rift."
