A special event "The Syrian Golan Heights - A Moment Before the Conquest of Assad" took place on Monday at the Truman Institute at the Hebrew University, during which a multi-participant meeting was held, followed by an online Skype call with leaders of the Syrian opposition, who are fighting against the army of President Bashar Al-Assad.

Issam Zaytoun, a refugee from the area who now lives in Germany, said that "without help and assistance from Israel, we will not be able to hold on to our struggle." According to him, the real enemy of the region is Iran and not Israel. "We live in a reality of 2018, we must recognize Israel and the future of our relationship." Toward the end of the conversation, the opposition leaders announced that Issam Zaytoun had been appointed by them as a representative to improve relations between the Syrian opposition and the State of Israel. Thanking Israel for its humanitarian aid, they said, "We will not sever our ties with Israel in the future," adding that they would continue to lead to a change in the culture of the conflict, to co-existence of peace and to uproot the claim that Israel is the enemy of the Arabs.
