Member of Knesset Amir Peretz said on Sunday, "The time has come for the prime minister to present a long-term strategy and move from managing reality to changing reality."
In a Maariv opinion piece, the former defense minister noted that after the Second Lebanon War in 2006, "Once we reached the agreements approved by the [United Nations] Security Council, the quiet on the Lebanese border has been preserved to this day." He added, "Escalation these days can turn into an opportunity. Due to the difficult situation of Hamas and its boycott by most of the countries of the world, including the Arab states, the openness of moderate Arab states and the sharing of interests with Israel, American support and the mobilization of the international community, a political process is possible based on the formula of demilitarization. This will change the Gaza reality, improve the humanitarian situation of its residents, and will ensure the quiet of the communities surrounding the Gaza Strip."
