Green Secularists, a secular faction that is running in Tel Aviv's municipal elections, has called on businesses to put up a sticker on their windows that they will be open on the fast of Tisha B'Av, a week from Sunday, when Israel mourns the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem, among other calamities.
Member of Knesset Meirav Ben-Ari (Kulanu) has condemned the idea, asking why it was necessary to ridicule a day that's important to a majority of the people. She called the effort "unnecessary," explaining, "It only adds to division and hatred." Chairman Naftali Bennett of the Jewish Home Party called on people to ignore the secular attempt, saying "the sign does not represent the atmosphere in Israel, which is respectful and tolerant."
