Prices for flights to Uman around Rosh Hashana are expected to drop this year, as a result of an agreement reached by the Civil Aviation Authority with the Ukrainian aviation authorities, according to Antitrust Commissioner Michal Halperin. She was responding to queries by Chairman Eitan Cabel of the Knesset Economics Committee in light of past experiences in which tickets that normally cost $300 go up to at least $1,000 because of the approximately 30,000 Israelis who visit the Tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslav during the holiday.
While supply and demand has been cited for the price hike, Cabel told the committee that Germany recently fined Lufthansa for a major hike during the December holiday season. He added, "I will not accept a situation of price fixing and such a dramatic rise in price. I will say that unequivocally, I will continue to monitor and ensure that the prices of flights on the approaching Rosh Hashanah will change for the better, and that there will be real competition."
