Golani soldiers enjoyed a break during tense days on the Syrian border, when the Friendship Foundation surprised them by organizing a viewing for them of the World Cup quarter-finals between England and Colombia. The Friendship Fund, in cooperation with the Association for the Soldiers, provided 350 Golani soldiers with refreshments, drinks, nuts and a large screen on which to watch the game.

Among the game's viewers were two soldiers born in the competing countries, one who made Aliyah from Colombia and a lone soldier from England. "We are excited about the game, it's a great gesture and an excellent break," the two said in Hebrew. Of course, each of them insisted, "My team will certainly win."

The game that took place last night lasted 120 minutes, including 30 minutes overtime, and ended with the two teams tied 1:1. Since none of the teams could break the tie, so the game was decided in a 4:3 duel for England. This is the first time since 2006 that England has qualified for the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
