Prosecution appeals sentence in Ben Deri case

At the last minute, the State Prosecutor's Office filed an appeal over the weekend with the Supreme Court against the leniency of the nine-month sentence given to Border Guard Ben Deri in a plea bargain for negligent homicide in the death of a rioter during a disturbance on Nakba Day four years ago. Nakba is the Arabic word for catastrophe that hostile parties use to describe the founding of modern-day Israel.

The plea bargain did not include agreement regarding the punishment. Deri has appealed the severity of the sentence.
