MK and Professor Yossi Yona praised the agreement between Education Minister Bennett and heads of academic institutions regarding the formulation of a code of ethics relating to political issues.
"There is no doubt that institutions of higher education must adopt a code of ethics that must be followed and that should be applied when college and university faculty deviate from appropriate rules of conduct, but this should not be done by legislation that severely infringes the academic freedom of universities and colleges," said Yona.
"The education minister did well to waive his initial demand to anchor the code of ethics in legislation and respect the independence of the universities."
