Chairman Aryeh Deri of the Sephardic haredi-religious Shas party has announced the party's support for the incumbent mayor, Dr. Yechiel Lasri, in the upcoming elections in Ashdod.
It is believed that the Ashkenazic haredi United Torah Judaism party will also support Lasri. The haredi support comes against the backdrop of the decline of "Sabbath wars" in Ashdod.
