The White House said on Monday that Hamas was to blame for the deaths of 52 Gazans killed by Israeli forces during protests over the US embassy opening in Jerusalem.
White House spokesman Raj Shah told reporters, "The responsibility for these tragic deaths rests squarely with Hamas. Shah said, "Hamas is intentionally and cynically provoking this response," adding: "Israel has the right to defend itself."
