President Reuven Rivlin saluted the United States on Sunday evening, ahead of Monday's inauguration of the US embassy in Jerusalem. Speaking at the official Jerusalem Day event at Ammunition Hill, he said, "Following the United States, embassies of other countries will come up to Jerusalem. The diplomatic siege on Jerusalem has been broken and broken. This is how it should be and it is fitting."
Rivlin added, "It is a good time to implement the government's decision, made 11 years ago, and to transfer all the [remaining] government units to Jerusalem, in a nice and demanding manner. In the same breath we must remember that Jerusalem is a microcosm of our ability to live here together, religious, secular and haredi-religious, Jews and Arabs. The unity of Jerusalem is also a commitment to equal treatment for all the residents of Jerusalem - this is our test, this is our test of sovereignty."
