Data from the Israel Credit Card Company, which operates the central clearing system for credit cards in Israel, showed that the Israelis spent 14.846 billion shekels via their credit cards during the two weeks before Passover, 20 percent higher than the amount spent by Israelis during the same period last year. The volume of credit transactions in preparation for Passover rose 17.5 percent.

The food industry recorded a 5.6-percent increase in the total expenditure of Israelis on credit. The number of transactions in the food industry rose by 12.4 percent.
