The Israel Journalists' Organization has asked commander Shimon Elkabetz of Israel Defense Forces Radio, to prevent steps being taken against Koby Meidan, following the announcement of Meidan's termination for writing on Facebook that he was ashamed to be an Israeli.
The organization said, "Harming an employee due to opinions expressed, in particular outside his place of work is invalid and illegal." The journalists also sought to remind Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman, who called for the suspension of Meidan, that the attorney general has made it clear in previous cases that the defense minister has no authority to intervene in the content of IDF Radio broadcasts or in the identity of its spokesmen.
