Yang Faming, who heads the government-linked China Islamic Association, on Saturday warned Chinese Muslims to be on the alert against Islamization, Reuters reported.
Yang praised Islam's long history in China, but warned that some Muslims were beginning to rely more on Sharia law and less on Chinese law, Xinhua reported. In some cases, Islam has begun to interfere in secular life.
People need to understand what it means to be a citizen as well as a believer, he warned.
