MK Shuli Mualem praised the Knesset for passing the Tender Years Clause in its first reading. The bill changes the existing arrangement in which a child's mother is automatically granted custody of any child under the age of six in the event of divorce.
"When my parents decide to divorce, everything must be done so that the child's best interests will not be harmed, and he will be able to continue in a stable and optimal relationship with both parents," said Mualem. "I am happy to remove the shocking clause that gives the rich parent the right to be a parent and discriminates against the poor parent."
