A law changing the 'Tender Years Clause' passed its first reading in the Knesset on Wednesday. The bill, which is sponsored by MK Yoav Kisch (Likud), would put an end to the current arrangement, which automatically grants a mother custody of any child under 6 years of age in divorce cases.
"This is an important day for the divorced fathers and mothers in Israel, and a much more important day for the children, for every child, both fathers, and mothers, even if they are divorced," said Kisch. "Parenting is the most basic thing for the wellbeing and growth of the child."
