A former Russian spy who was given refuge in the United Kingdom after being convicted of spying for Britain is one of two people in critical condition after being exposed to an unknown substance.66-year-old Sergei Skripal and a woman in her 30s were found unconscious in the southern British city of Salisbury on Sunday. 

A former colonel of Russia's military intelligence, Skripal was convicted in Russia in 2006 on charges of espionage for Britain's MI6 intelligence agency. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison but was given refuge in the UK as part of a spy swap between the United States and Russia eight years ago.
