Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has rejected a proposal made at Monday's meeting of the Palestine Liberation Organization Council that he go to Gaza and announce an "armed struggle against Israel," according to a report in the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, cited by Maariv.
It should be noted that in contrast to previous meetings in which media outlets were brought in and that Abbas's remarks were even broadcast live on PA TV, this meeting was not broadcasts "in order to allow full freedom of expression for council members". PA sources told the Lebanese newspaper, which is close to Hezbollah, that Abbas demanded that the council member "withdraw the position paper because it is provocative."
