The collision of two trains loaded with passengers was prevented at the last minute on Sunday, according to a Tuesday evening report by News 2. A worker who was in charge of the switching system diverted one of the trains to the wrong track opposite the second train.

The disaster was prevented when one of the engineers noticed the lights of the train in front of him and managed to stop. The fact that the accident occurred in the vicinity of the station, where trains in any case travel slower, helped prevent the disaster. Israel Railways credited the safety system with preventing the collision and said the incident is under investigation.
