The Knesset has approved the preliminary reading of a bill proposing that a medical institution inform a patient who is released from medical treatment or a guardian of his already existing right to receive a copy of his medical records.
There are various needs for these records, such as receiving additional medical care or the need to use information for a medical malpractice claim, etc. When a patient approaches the medical institution at a later date from the date of discharge he or she may encounter incomplete or altered medical documentation that have not been introduced in real time and may have significant implications for the patient. The patient may not think to ask for the information or may be under pressure at the time of discharge.
