The Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee has unanimously approved for final readings, the cancellation of the tax imposed on the special compensation given to reservists beyond the compensation designed to protect their civilian salaries. Two types of benefits are given to reserve soldiers who served for extended periods - the additional compensation given to reservists who performed 10 or more reserve days a year, and the special compensation given to those who served 32 reserve duty days or more per year, And to other groups defined by military orders.
The discussion also dealt with a bill initiated by MK Oded Forer (Yisrael Beiteinu), which proposes to reduce the tax rate on the two special compensations from 25% to 10%. A Ministry of Finance budget representative expressed his opposition to the change, saying one version meant a loss of NIS 7.5 million a year, and that the private bill meant a loss of tax revenues of NIS 50 million a year.
