Poland's deputy foreign minister said on Tuesday that no criminal action would be taken against those who violated the new law, which limits Holocaust statements.

The law, which will come into effect at the end of the month, forbids blaming Poland or the Polish people for Nazi crimes. It also calls for three years' imprisonment for violations, such as using the phrase "Polish death camp". The official said in an interview to Polish television that no indictments would be filed against those who would break the law, but Poland would demand some compensation for "incorrect statements." He said Poland will respond, demand clarifications and argue against such statements, but no means of action will be implemented."
