The cyber unit of the Israel Police's fraud squad arrested four suspects this morning for questioning under warning of prosecution on suspicion of committing aggravated fraud, receiving fraudulently under aggravated circumstances, and other offenses.
It is suspected that they sent text messages to the cellular phones of account holders in financial institutions, asking them to click on a link attached to the notice so that they could update their personal details. After the victim entered through the attached link he was redirected to a website posing as the institution where he was asked to enter his personal information. At this stage all the information was passed on to the suspects who allegedly exploited it for the purpose of committing criminal offenses.
