Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh told the Knesset Interior Committee on Tuesday that the police do not leak information from interrogations to the media. Speaking at a hearing on his department's handling of investigations involving Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and others, he said that those being interrogated leak information through their attorneys in order to convey messages to other suspects with whom they cannot speak directly.
Alsheikh said, "Those being questioned ridicule the interrogators and the investigation so that they will not influence them publicly, sometimes blatantly," adding, "Someone wanted to show that the police were leaking." He said he never spoke or met with a media person without a spokesman, "and that preserves the purity of the police."
