A special-education bill initiated by Knesset Education Committee Chairman Yaakov Margi was endorsed on Sunday by the Ministerial Committee on Legislation and will be attached to a government bill that was also approved and will soon be discussed.
The proposal states that a committee will be set up to determine the needs of a child and in accordance with them, the child's budget basket will be determined, which will go with him or her to any framework chosen by the child or the parents. Another right granted in this proposal is a long school day and the extension of the school year, subject to the child's needs. For the first time, discrimination against children with special needs in the educational framework due to disability will be a criminal offense and constitute an excuse for revoking the educational framework license by the Ministry of Education's director-general.
