A rare and beautiful Roman mosaic from the 2nd-3rd century CE, with an inscription in ancient Greek, is currently being uncovered in the Caesarea National Park in works carried out by the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Caesarea Development Corporation throughout the park.
Archaeologists were surprised to find the mosaic - estimated to be about 1,800 years old - beneath a large and magnificent building that stood in the Byzantine period (1500 years ago), that was discovered within the framework of the restoration of the impressive entrance bridge to Caesarea in the Byzantine period - part of the promenade project currently under construction, which will lead from Jisr al-Zarqa to the Caesarea National Park.
