The IDF removed 20 Kashrut inspectors from their position after it was revealed that the inspectors were secular and did not observe Jewish law. According to the IDF's guidelines, only religiously-observant soldiers can supervise the army kitchens. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit admitted that "according to the instruction of the Chief Rabbi of the IDF, soldiers serving as kashrut supervisors are obligated to be observant " and that "in the last draft there were a number of kashrut supervisors who were not religious".
